ESPN predicts outcome between Auburn and Missouri

The Auburn Tigers will be back on the basketball court Wednesday night when they travel to face the Missouri Tigers. Auburn will be looking to use the momentum from its 95-73 win over Arkansas and get its second conference victory of the season.

ESPN is expecting it to be a close game between these two sets of Tigers. The ESPN Matchup Predictor gives Auburn a 52.7% chance of winning, versus just 47.3% for Missouri. Part of that could be due to the road struggles Auburn has had this season. Five of the six Auburn defeats this season have happened away from Neville Arena.

Missouri currently has a record of 12-4, and they are 2-1 in conference play. On the other side, Auburn is 10-6 overall with a conference record of 1-2. Missouri has picked up wins over Florida and Kentucky, but lost on Saturday to Ole Miss 76-69. They are a team led by their guards. Mark Mitchell leads the team in scoring with 17.4 points per game. Behind him are guards Jayden Stone (13.9) and Jacob Crews (12.6). Mitchell is also a good rebounder, averaging 5.3 per game. In the loss against Ole Miss, he scored 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Auburn’s Keyshawn Hall has been playing as well as anyone in the SEC through the first three games. He is averaging 27.3 points per game in conference play and has had consecutive games with 30 or more points. Tahaad Pettiford has seemed to play better on the road this season. He showed that in the SEC opener against Georgia, scoring 25 points. In Auburn’s two SEC home games, Pettiford has just scored a combined 17 points. A key for an Auburn win will be winning in the paint. Ole Miss outscored Missouri in that category 34-24, and Auburn should have an advantage there with their ability to get to the basket.

Auburn and Missouri are scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m. CT, and the game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
