Iowa football offers SMU transfer portal WR after visit

Scout Springgate, Hawkeyes WireFri, January 16, 2026 at 9:15 PM UTC·1 min read

Following his Thursday visit with Iowa football, the Hawkeyes have officially extended an offer to SMU transfer wide receiver Lance Beeghley.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder from New Braunfels, Texas, did not see any action for the Mustangs in the 2025-26 season after redshirting in 2024. With the redshirt year, Beeghley will have three years of eligibility remaining at his next destination.

Beeghley initially signed with SMU as part of the 2024 class as a three-star signee, ranking as the nation's No. 296 wide receiver and as the 346th-ranked player in Texas, per 247Sports.

Since the transfer portal window opened on Jan. 2, the Hawkeyes have added a pair of wide receivers in former Furman receiver Evan James and former UTRGV receiver Tony Diaz.

Despite his youth and lack of playing time at SMU, the potential addition of Beegley would undoubtedly aid the depth at that position for offensive coordinator Tim Lester next season.
