Evan Mobley's last-second dunk leads Cavaliers to 117-115 comeback win over 76ers
Evan Mobley's dunk with 4.8 seconds left capped a dramatic Cleveland Cavaliers comeback, sealing a 117-115 road victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night. The Cavs erased multiple double-digit deficits in the second half to snatch the win.
The story of the night, however, was rookie Jaylon Tyson. The Cavaliers' 2024 first-round pick erupted for a career-high 39 points on remarkably efficient shooting: 13-of-17 from the field, 7-of-9 from three-point range, and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. He added 5 rebounds and 4 assists, with the final assist being a sensational wrap-around pass from the baseline to a cutting Mobley for the game-winning slam.
"I just saw the lane open up and trusted my teammate to finish," Tyson said of the decisive play. "We never stopped believing, even when we were down."
Philadelphia, led by Joel Embiid's 33 points and Tyrese Maxey's 29 points and 9 assists, appeared in control for long stretches. They held a 62-55 halftime lead and stretched it to 11 points early in the third quarter and again to 100-89 midway through the fourth.
Cleveland's resilience proved decisive. A Donovan Mitchell three-pointer sparked a 10-0 run, capped by a DeAndre Hunter triple that tied the game at 102-102 with 5:53 remaining. The teams traded blows in the final minutes, with Maxey tying the game at 115-115 on a floater with 8.1 seconds left, setting the stage for Cleveland's final play.
Beyond Tyson's heroics, the Cavs received balanced contributions: Hunter and Mobley each scored 15, with Mobley adding 4 blocks, while Mitchell and Tyrese Proctor chipped in 13 points apiece.
The victory lifts Cleveland (24-19) to sixth place in the Eastern Conference, just ahead of Philadelphia (22-18), who now sit in seventh.
