Inter Milan midfielder Piotr Zielinski refused to hide his excitement after tonight’s narrow 1-0 home win over Lecce.
Speaking to DAZN via FCInterNews, he praised his side for solidifying their place at the top of the Serie A standings.
With Hakan Calhanoglu sidelined by injury, Zielinski assumed the role of a deep-lying playmaker.
However, the Pole failed to impress tonight despite enjoying plenty of possession.
The 31-year-old at least looked calm and collected on the ball in his third consecutive Serie A start.
Yet, he often lacked the final ball, though his ball-carrying ability never ceased to amaze.
Meanwhile, Francesco Pio Esposito scored off the bench to seal Inter’s third win in their last four home league outings.
Indeed, the young striker pounced on a fortunate rebound and hammered the ball into the net from close range.
As a result, Inter could enter the weekend six points clear of AC Milan if the Rossoneri drop points at Como tomorrow.

“It’s always nice to be up there at the top,” Zielinski said after the game. “But we know there are still many matches to play and many points to fight for.
“We have to stay focused; we saw it tonight against Lecce, who are a very good team.
“You suffer against everyone; there are no easy games, and we must always give our all.”
Then, he opened up on how Cristian Chivu urged the team to inject more pace into their game during the halftime interval.
“In the first half, we lacked speed in our play,” Zielinski admitted. “We held on to the ball too much and didn’t make the most of our wing-backs.
“In the second half, we were rewarded with a great goal from Pio.”
