Florida State football lands two key transfer portal linebackers
Florida State football has landed a pair of commitments from key transfer linebackers, bolstering a critical position for the Seminoles.
The Seminoles landed North Carolina transfer Mikai Gbayor after he visited the program on Thursday, Jan. 15, reuniting him with his former defensive coordinator at Nebraska, Tony White. Less than an hour after Gbayor committed, FSU earned the signature of Southern Miss transfer Chris Jones, who posted 133 total tackles last season.
The pair of players adds depth to the linebacker room, which features returners Omar Graham Jr. and Blake Nichelson and top freshman signee Izayia Williams.
Gbayor spent last season at North Carolina, but he played two years under White at Nebraska, first playing in 2023 after not playing in 2021 and 2022 in his first two seasons. He's posted 112 career tackles, 2.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and three pass breakups. He brings experience in White's 3-3-5.
Jones is a consistent tackler, and he's totaled 179 tackles in his first two years of college, including 133 last season for Southern Miss. He led the Sun Belt in tackles and was an All-Sun Belt first-team defender.
