Australia great Healy to retire from cricket
Australian cricket icon and national team captain Alyssa Healy has confirmed her retirement from all forms of cricket, bringing an end to a storied 15-year international career following the upcoming multi-format series against India.
The 35-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, a cornerstone of Australia's unprecedented era of dominance, will leave the game as one of its most decorated players. Her career accolades include over 7,000 international runs, 275 dismissals, eight World Cup titles (six T20, two ODI), and a historic 16-0 Ashes whitewash of England in 2025 as captain. Her record-shattering 170 in the 2022 ODI World Cup final remains the highest individual score in a tournament decider.
In announcing her decision, Healy pointed to a natural evolution in her drive. “I'm still passionate about playing for Australia, but I've somewhat lost that competitive edge that's kept me driven since the start, so the time feels right to call it a day," she said. She expressed a heartfelt sentiment for her final appearances, stating she would miss her teammates, the team song, and "walking out to open the batting for Australia."
Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg paid tribute, labeling Healy "one of the all-time greats of the game" whose contribution has been "immeasurable both on and off the field."
Healy, who is married to Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc and is the niece of legendary keeper Ian Healy, has already established a successful parallel career in broadcasting. Her final act on the field will be to lead Australia in a full home series against India, comprising a Test match, three ODIs, and three T20Is throughout February and March, offering fans a final opportunity to celebrate her legacy in the green and gold.
